Hero Honda was the merger of two companies, Hero Cycle Ltd. (A leading cycle manufacturer, owned by Munjal Group) and Honda Motor (A Japan-based automobile company). The merger took place in the year 1983 and the company was incorporated in 1984. After one year of its inception, the company started the manufacturing of two-wheelers.

The launch of Hero Honda CD 100 was a great success. The bikes of the company were not only marvelous in their performance but also low in cost. Then one after another Hero comes up with its new models in India and started ruling the India two-wheeler market.

As far as the partnership of two companies was concern, Honda used to provide motorbike technology to the group. And both the companies had 26 percent of share with them. Because of some internal conflict between Honda and Hero, the partnership between both ended up in the year 2010. However, both were committed to providing all technical and other support to customers of Hero Honda. After 2014, the partnership between both ended complexly and now there is no dependency on either of them.

The user of Hero Honda models can reach to support center of both Hero and Honda and take any type of assistance. The companies are now separate but they have a wide service center network. The customer of Hero cannot take service from Honda and vice-versa. However, the customer of Hero Honda can take service from either of them.
