John married Priya Runchal, an NRI financial analyst and investment banker from the US. He married in 2014 and had a celebration in Los Angeles.

John Abraham begins his career in modeling with Jazzy B’s music video song ‘Surma’. After appearing in this video, he joined the media firm and Time & Space Media Entertainment Promotions Ltd., which got closed due to financial issues. He also worked for Enterprises-Nexus as a media planner. In 1999, John became the winner of the Gladrags Manhunt Contest and came second in Manhunt International. After winning these two contests, he modeled in Hong Kong, London and New York City. He also appeared in several commercial advertisements and music videos for famous singers. Then he made up his mind to enter the acting field and for better performances, he joined, Kishore Namit Kapoor acting institute.

He began his acting debut with the 2003 erotic thriller film Jism. The movie earned 1,32,50,000 Rupees and gave John recognition as an actor in the film industry. It was indeed a good start, his excellent physique adds to his persona.
In the same year, John was seen in the horror romance film Saaya opposite Tara Sharma and Mahima Chaudhry. However, the film didn’t do well and underperformed at the box office but his growth as an actor was tremendous.

A year later, John was seen in action thriller movies such as Elaan and Karam. He was also seen in the supernatural thriller Kaal and the comedy Garam Masala. Both these movies did well at the box office. Later, he was seen in Deepa Mehta’s Water.
In 2006, he performed at the “Rockstars Concert” with popular Bollywood actors Salman Khan, Zayed Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Esha Deol, Shahid Kapoor and Mallika Sherawat. He also performed in movies like Zinda, Taxi No. 9211, Baabul and Kabul Express. From all these Taxi No. 9211 and Kabul Express were successful films.
