Her elder brother Karnesh Sharma is a film producer, who served in the Merchant Navy. She was brought up in Bengaluru and studied there in Army School. After completing her graduation, she moved to Mumbai to pursue her career in modeling. In 2007, she made her debut at the Lakme Fashion Week for designer Wendell Rodricks and was on the final list for modeling at the Spring Summer 2007 Collection. After that, she did campaigns for brands such as Silk & Shine, Whisper, Nathella Jewelry, and Fiat Paliohe’s inclination was to act, so she joined an acting school and started giving auditioning for film roles.

Anushka Sharma made her acting debut in Aditya Chopra’s romantic movie Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi in 2008. She got the lead role and paired with Shahrukh Khan. She played the role of Tani Sahni, a young bride married to a middle-aged man, portrayed by Khan.
