Kareena Kapoor was born on 21st September 1980 in Mumbai. She was named Kareena by her parents but lovingly called Bebo. She is the younger daughter of Randhir Kapoor (the film actor) and Babita (the film actress). She has an elder sister Karisma, who is also an actress. She is the paternal granddaughter of actor and filmmaker very well-known all over, Late Shri Raj Kapoor, and great-granddaughter of filmmaker Prithviraj Kapoor. She is the maternal granddaughter of actor Hari Shivdasani.
School and College:
Kareena went to Jamnabai Narsee School in Mumbai and later joined Welham Girls’ School in Dehradun. After completing schooling at Welham, she joined Mithibai College for two years. Then she went to the USA for completing a three-month summer course in microcomputers at Harvard Summer. There she/her interest developed in law and enrolled at the Government Law College, Mumbai. She developed a passion for reading and after completing the first year she decided to pursue acting. She began her training in acting at an acting institute in Mumbai mentored by Kishore Namit Kapoor.
Personal Life:
In 2012, Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan went into their registry marriage. On 16 October 2012, Kapoor married actor Saif Ali Khan in a private ceremony in Bandra, Mumbai and gave birth to two sons in 2016 and 2021 respectively. She officially became Kareena Kapoor Khan.
Interest developed in Acting:
Despite the film background, her father was against an acting career. He believed that women must take care of the family responsibilities and this led to a conflict between her parents, and they both separated. This led to her upbringing by her mother Babita. And to raise her two daughters she worked several jobs till Karisma debuted as an actress in 1991. Slowly things went fine and both her parents finally reconciled in 2007.

She got her first role opposite Hrithik Roshan in 2000 for the movie Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai but she abandoned the project. Then she was offered a role by J. P. Dutta in his war drama Refugee. The movie was based on the Indo-Pakistani war of 1971. She has been appreciated for her role as Naaz in the movie by several critics.
Her second release was a box-office hit Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai in 2001. She was paired opposite Tusshar Kapoor and the next multi-starrer movie was Subhash Ghai’s flop movie Yaadein.
After this, she appeared in yet another multi-starrer thriller by Abbas-Mustan’s Ajnabee.
She did in period epic Aśoka opposite Shah Rukh Khan. The movie was screened at the Venice and 2001 Toronto International Film Festivals.
The change in her acting career happened after seeking the role in Karan Johar’s Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham in 2001. The movie gave her a chance to work with six mega stars. The movie received high accolades from people all over the world.
